Something wicked this way comes…
When her aunt died, level-headed accountant Clare Cermak inherited a fortune–as well as a phantom dog and the power to help ghosts move on. Her new gift led her to Zach Slade, a sexy private investigator with a unique psychic gift of his own and the man who’s slowly opening her heart. But as they work toward building a future together, a sinister threat emerges.
An evil ghost is ravaging Creede, Colorado, threatening to devour the spirit of an innocent boy. Inexperienced in facing such a powerful ghost–and knowing her spirit, too, could be ripped away–Clare still can’t refuse to help. With Zach’s support she uncovers the ghost’s identity and the ancestral weapon required to slay it. But does Clare dare to use that weapon before the ghost destroys the man she loves–and her own spirit?
This review is for Robin D. Owens’ book Ghost Killer which is Book 3 in the Ghost Seer series, published on February 3rd.  I listened to this book as an audiobook narrated by Coleen Marlo.  The only complaint I had in regards to the narrator was to the different pitches and voices used was it sounded too close to Scooby Doo’s voice (I am showing my age here) in my head for Enzo but since Enzo is a phantom Labrador so it sort of fit.  Coleen stayed constant and true to her voices and it resulted in a smooth listen for the entire book.  I have previously only read Ms. Owen’s Cleta series so this was my first read for the Ghost Seer series.  The first couple of chapters I felt like I was dumped into a world and flailing about for a bit but soon got up to speed on all the characters Clare, Zach, Enzo, Caden, Mrs. Flinton and where they all fit together.
Clare, the heroine, has inherited her aunts entire estate along with the ability to see ghosts from a period in the 1800s. Â To help them move along but usually before they go you have to solve the mystery. Â Since she can only see from this time period the stories take place in western towns. Â So her life was turned upside down from being a no-nonsense accountant to a Ghost Seer.
Zach, the hero, a former cop turned Private Investigator, who is Clare’s boyfriend who has a touch of psychic ability also. Â Who can now see Clare’s phantom Labrador Enzo.
This story is a modern day paranormal ghost story and quickly takes off as they leave to go to Creede, CO to help Mrs. Flinton’s 7 year old grandson Caden. Â Â I don’t want to give away any spoilers but it is up to Clare, Zach and Enzo to find out the name of the killer. I will advise reading book 1 and 2 first which only cover about a two week period as this book picks right up where Ghost Layer left off. Â Be warned this book has numerous sex scenes that sometimes detract from the plot line but otherwise if you enjoy mysteries, adventure and a hot couple give this one a chance.
