Robin’s Thoughts

Riversnow was the first book that I have read that Ms. Thompson has written so this was my first visit to River Valley, the small town that Ms. Thompson has created for this series.  All I can say is you have to read this book there are no if, ands, or buts and saying that I will warn you up front *spoilers* the prologue dear lord the prologue that will tear you to pieces and you will scream and cry and want to throw the book across the room *don’t advise that if you read on a kindle* and quit saying it is too much but Please PLEASE stay with it. *if you need to contact me and I will sum up the prologue for you*  I can not say enough about how wonderful this book was.  Ms. Thompson was able to take a subject one that I don’t normally read about which has the ability to be a trigger for many people and turn in into a wonderful story of personal growth and triumph and throwing in a love story on top.  This is most assuredly a book that you will be unable to put down until it is finished and one you will find more depth and insights in on future readings.  Ms. Thompson’s characters are well thought out, deep and seem to have old souls where they are destined for epic journeys in finding love.

After the prologue *Did I warn you again about that prologue? Congrats Ms. Thompson you ripped my heart out but I will give you the credit for letting it grow some while you had it and putting it back it* the story quickly jumps to the present where Genevieve “Gennie” Banks is beautiful, successful and has become one of Hollywood’s highest paid actresses all the while she is hiding a terrible secret that is eating away at her soul.  She holds the world at a distance never letting anyone close enough to make a difference or impact in her life.  Soon you are introduced to Stefan Spencer who you find out is the Lead actor in Gennie’s latest movie and who is 100% in love with Gennie even though she has told him over and over that nothing can ever come of it.  What is this secret? What trauma has damaged someone so much that they just drift through life? How many shocks can Ms. Thompson drop on us before our hearts give out. Let me tell you there are a bunch of them. I warn you again this is a real life journey where Gennie is trying to find herself and how to heal. Meaning yes it is a love story and Stefan is there but he is also there to help Gennie find herself  and even do some growing as a person on his own. All the other characters in the small town made me want to move there as soon as possible to be surrounded by their warmth, love and protections.

I will soon be looking to read more of this series as soon as I get some free time. Riversnow was a little confusing to me just because I always what to know everyone’s back story and all the people in River Valley seem to have a story. *must be in those other books note to self get them soon* I think if you read the series in order you will get even more from some of the interactions between the other characters that I was a little lost on.

One quote that brought me to tears and I couldn’t help but add it to my thoughts here.

I gave birth to this beautiful girl, but I’m not her mother.  Yet, here she is next to me. A miracle. A second chance.

A bonus for Ms. Thompson and anyone who reads this story will understand!

Lee Tucker never imagined such grief as the day when her husband decided to take his own life. Her troubles only escalate when she discovers he also left her pregnant and one million dollars in debt to a dangerous loan shark.

Out of options and on the run, she escapes to the small Oregon town where her deceased mother’s home still remains in her family. The dilapidated house echoes Lee’s feelings. Like her, it’s financially ruined, heartbroken and in desperate need of a fresh start.

Lee develops a plan to refurbish the house and reinvent her life by opening a restaurant named Riversong. In doing so, she finds a second chance for passion and love, but danger lurks as her growing business attracts the unwanted attention of her dead husband’s debt collector.

Riversong assembles a colorful cast of endearing small-town characters and takes you on a journey that will make you believe in the possibilities of life – even in the face of overwhelming adversity and unimaginable grief. A surprising mix of romance, intrigue and even gourmet food, Riversong entertains and reminds us of life’s greatest gifts.

Annie Bell never expected to get as lucky as the day she was made head chef of Riversong, the hottest restaurant to hit her quaint Oregon town. What starts as a quiet gig, quickly grows as Annie’s reputation soars to new heights and she becomes known as one of the best chefs in the Pacific Northwest. But the publicity brings unwanted attention.

One day she receives a threatening phone call from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Marco. Learning he is out on parole breeds terror in Annie. Even more disturbing is the realization that Marco is hungry for revenge, blaming her for his ten-year imprisonment.

Fearing for her life and that of her young son, Annie reluctantly accepts help from Drake Webber, a handsome and wealthy recluse who hides a dark history of his own.
Author Tess Thompson reunites the colorful cast of endearing characters from her bestselling novel, Riversong, and takes readers on a journey of faith, friendship and ultimately, love.

Riverbend is a reader’s escape blending love, laughter, friendship, suspense and gourmet food while reminding that it’s never too late for second chances.

After ending a dysfunctional affair with a powerful movie producer, feisty Hollywood makeup artist Bella Webber finds herself back in the quaint Oregon town of River Valley, working on a film. Despite trying to distract herself with the work, Bella is unnerved by her proximity to business executive Ben Fleck — a man she fell instantly in love with during a chance encounter at her brother’s home. Unfortunately, he sees her as nothing more than a heartbreak waiting to happen.

When an actress is found murdered after she’s seen leaving the restaurant Riversong with Ben, he is accused of the crime and arrested. Convinced of his innocence, the River Valley friends band together to find the real killer, and Bella must face her biggest fear to ensure the truth is revealed.

Romantic, suspenseful, and engaging, bestselling author Tess Thompson’s third novel in the River Valley Collection delivers another tribute to the power of community and the bonds of friendship.
